The 4th ABCT is showing signs of an organization that is not functioning in a manner that would maximize it’s potential. It is easy to see, that in the past the brigade was exemplary. It was mission focused and the soldiers were dedicated to the mission of this organization. Most importantly, the soldiers of the 4th ABCT could solve problems that came up and were impowered to do so at the lowest level. In the recent past, this organization has suffered multiple set-backs which resulted in serious problems within. In the case of the 4th ABCT, a vision statement should focus on training, mutual respect and leader development in order to achieve any assigned mission. This vision statement cannot be haphazardly developed and will most likely be created after a thorough analysis and understanding of the interworking of the 4th ABCT. Upon review of the information available to date, my vision statement would read: “The 4th ABCT will be ready for full spectrum operations across the globe by focusing on training and building resiliency in its soldiers while developing empowered leaders that can conduct decisive operations in support of the U.S. national …show more content…

This model can provide the roadmap for effective change in the organization that can be passed on to the next commander by being ingrained into the culture of the 4th ABCT. To start, it is important to establish a sense of urgency so that every member of the ABCT understands the importance of change. With the coming up NTC rotation as well as the upcoming RAF mission, soldiers need to understand that importance of readiness for these missions. Having experienced a loss of senior leaders in Afghanistan, it should be stressed to them that the change is needed to prevent losses during the next mission. To drive the change, a guiding coalition needs to be created. Since morale and family concerns are affecting the organization, the presence of the chaplain is paramount to its success. In addition, CPT Pat Donelson, the brigade S1 can be a good asset in the coalition since he has the respect of many subordinates. It is also important to communicate the vision to the soldiers within the brigade. Having the soldiers understand the need for proper training will help them in their deployment while building resiliency will help them with dealing with potential situations at home. To empower broad base action, the soldiers would need to be the ones driving the change. Empowering battalion commanders to improve their unit and work with other battalions
