The Stages of Grief: Explanation of Feelings Experienced During a Loss Shanda N. Shade ENG-112-800 Anissa Demiter October 25, 2015 Background “Grief is like the ocean; it comes on waves ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm, and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim” (Harrison). Losing someone close to you is always difficult and hard to understand why your mind is taking your mental and physical state through so many phases. The five stages include denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. This paper is going to explain each phase of the stages of Grief, not to be viewed in a specific order. Some will not go through all stages and as stated previously may not go through them in the exact order stated.
