For employees of the company? A job-sharing plan is a work arrangement in which one full-time position is shared by two or more employees. Each employee works part of the week or on certain days, with another employee in charge of the remaining hours. For example, the employee may be assigned to a specific day or time of the week, or the duties may be split up. Such plans may be flexibly adjusted to accommodate changes in the labor market and the needs of employees. What are the potential negative consequences for the company and the employee? Do you have concerns about potential employment discrimination if this plan is implemented? What, if any, does it look like? Job-sharing may make work coordination and information sharing more difficult. Lack of communication and cooperation between partners can affect the efficiency and quality of work. Job-sharing may also increase labor costs because two employees would be needed to perform the same job. If a job-sharing plan is implemented, the risk of employment discrimination may arise from the ability to provide certain employees with the flexible working conditions they require (Byars & Stanberry, 2019). Due to lack of communication and cooperation and reduced working hours, job sharing may result in reduced productivity.
