On September 1, 2001, an alleged terrorist attack was committed against the United States of America, leaving millions confused, wondering what really happened. The terrorist attack consisted of 19 hijackers taking control of four different planes heading toward the west coast. Those four planes were redirected toward The World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and the fourth landed in Pennsylvania. Two of the planes flew directly into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, engulfing them in flames from the jet fuel, eventually leaving the buildings to collapse, killing thousands. The Twin Towers however, were build with intent to withstand high volumes of heat, so how could jet fuel produce enough heat to melt the structure and cause the building …show more content…

The structure of the Twin Towers buildings were built with intent to withstand high volumes of heat, as well as high impacts, so why did they collapse from the damage caused by the two small jet fuel planes? The twin towers were built with steel that can withstand heat up to 2800 degrees Fahrenheit, yet the planes jet fuel can only produce heat up to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit (Mole). Also, no steel-framed high-rise building has ever collapsed due to fire. So, how did the steel melt enough to weaken the structure of buildings enough to cause them to collapse? According to Phil Mole in the scholarly article, 9/11 conspiracy theories: the 9/11 truth movement in perspective, the temperature of the fires created by the planes could have reached anywhere from 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit to 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit. Although not hot enough to completely melt the steal, it would have been more than enough to weaken the structure enough to the point of collapse. In fact, Phil Mole states “engineering estimates tell us that steel loses 50% of its strength at 1.200°F and can lose as much as 90% of its strength at temperatures of 1,800°F” (Mole, 33). If the temperature …show more content…

Behind these attacks there are many conspiracy theories such as; the fall of the Twin Towers was a controlled demolition or “There have been claims and suggestions that Bush used the 9/11 attacks—or even engineered them—as a pretext to engage in wars and increase the state security infrastructure” (Suhrie/Corbis). The theory presented that controlled demolition orchestrated the fall of the Twin Towers has been proven to be illegitimate. Scientific evidence and explanations debunked the claims in the theory, explaining the collapse of the Twin Towers. Concluding, on September 1, 2001, the fall of the Twin Towers was the result of a terrorist attack against the United States and not controlled demolition by another
