During Intro to Nursing Science I, I learned the meaning of a conceptual framework and how it differs from a theoretical framework. Through the coursework and teachings, I discovered that a conceptual framework acts as an illustrated or narrative road map for a study defining the expected relationships between the variables; whereas, a theoretical framework supports the research by providing supporting evidence (existing theory or theories) relevant to the study itself that lends weight to the researcher’s claims and/ or discoveries. Moreover, a conceptual framework also includes a theoretical framework to substantiate and lend weight to the research findings. In both Nursing Science I and Research Translation, the class taught us how to locate, dissect, and critically appraise the research evidence. This assignment allowed me to reflect on the many reasons for why I wanted to become a nurse. One being that I have always been fascinated by the human body and the mind-body connection. The many ways in which a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can impact the physical health of the individual. Additionally, I like how the field of nursing encompasses many disciplines in the development of nursing theories. Lastly, nursing is a rewarding profession where I can make a real difference in the lives of others and has a value system similar to my own.
