The multibillion dollar controversial industry Five hundred billion dollars is spent every single year on some sort of advertisement. Additionally, some companies spend more on advertising than actual research. In this essay I will briefly go over the history of ads and then move onto the comparison of two similar ads; one ad from the late 90’s and another ad from this current year, 2017. Over the last twenty years ads have changed significantly. In the past, ads focused more on the product or service that the ad was advertising. The ad is advertising DuraSoftⓇ FreshLookⓇ Disposable Color Contacts. In the ad there is a white female wearing a blue-colored button-up. She is advertising blue contacts. These contacts are the exact same shade of blue as her button-up shirt. She has her head slightly tilted, showing a forced smile outlined with dark red colored lipstick, and her pearl white teeth are showing. One of the very first things you notice about this women is that she is super tan. Her hair is brown and is a curly mess. The creators of this ad did not do too much photoshopping to this photo. She has smile wrinkles around her mouth. This lady is naturally gorgeous and makes for an awesome model for this advertisement without giving off any type of sexual vibes or unnecessary unrealistic qualities as to how a women should look. Looking over the text on the ad the first thing that I noticed was the word “Change”. The word “change” is written on the ad 4 times in a big and bold font. Underneath each of the four words there are several more words that tell the reader what they should change. “Change your image”, “Change the rules”, “Change your eye color”, and “Change is a beautiful thing” are the four phrases. In the bottom right corner of the ad there are four thumbnails of different eye colors. This ad is super informative. Additionally, nothing is confusing about this ad. It’s simply advertising contacts, the different colors you can get, and why you should do it. This is quite different than the other
