The main principle of the recently updated Children’s Act (2004) is to protect children and make sure their health and well-being is paramount. The Act was updated due to mistakes made in the Victoria Climbe case as well as various other reasons. The Victoria Climbe case involved an eight year old girl who was failed by local authorities she later died from her injuries in February 2000 after being tortured and starved to death by her great auntie and her boyfriend. Victoria was brought to London, England for a better life from the Ivory coast by her aunty and the abuse started once she moved in with her boyfriend Carl. During the abuse Climbe was beaten, burned with cigarettes, hit with bike chains and forced to sleep in a bin liner inside an empty bath.
