The ‘Wintel’ collaboration led to the monopoly of the PC market by Intel and Microsoft. This collaboration dethroned Apple as the dominant power and a staggering 15 million Personal Computers were sold with that combination. Another notable collaboration was the 8086-chip license to AMD by Intel. Years later, the license was renewed for 80286 that was upward compatible giving an opportunity for AMD to clone (copy the Intel microcode) the chip. This was a start to a series of legal battles between AMD and Intel that would run for decades. 3.3 Marketing Strategies: Intel is among the world’s most valuable brands.
