In our lives we see loss every day, it can be death, losing something, or something more then what we see. In the three passages we have they all show an example of loss from different situations, and from those we see how it affects the individuals involved in the passage In the passage “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens one example of loss is when Scrooge and Fred fight and don’t get along because Scrooge believes that poor people shouldn’t celebrate christmas.A quote to explains this is their interactions are negative because it causes bad feelings to one another and hurtful things to be said. ““Good afternoon!” said Scrooge. “And A Happy New Year!”,“Good afternoon!” said Scrooge. What right have you to be merry? What reason have you to be merry? You’re poor enough.” This quote shows how differently Scrooge and has nephew view the world and holiday. Scrooge obviously doesn’t like the presence of Fred nor does Scrooge like the idea of poor people celebrating christmas. This causes conflict between these family members, and highlights the negative issues within the relationship through fighting. In the passage called “The Highway Man” by Jimmy Web there are multiple examples of “death”. This passage was about a highway man that robbed people for valuables, and about a girl that had an interest in him. An example of death in this passage is when the highway man was out (like he is most nights) and the police were tracking him down. We talked about how loss can impact a person emotionally, physically, and mentally. In the story of “A Christmas Carol” the conflict was between family and how they didn’t get along. This family conflict impacted every member of the family because they each said hurtful things to one another. In “The Highway Man” the girl killed herself to try to save her lover, which is loss in death. In this passage the girl tried to protect the man from the police because the police were going to kill the highway man, so it was a warning for the highway man. However, he is also lost as a result of her sacrifice. In death their relatinship is also lost Finally, in the last passage “My Mother Really Knew” the loss was the breaking apart of a family through conflict and losing a family member. The passage was about a father having an argument with the family and then in the last few lines it says that it was really stormy, windy, etc then it just stopped. We therefore interpret this to be a form of losing a family member.In each story we see examples of the statement that “loss is losing something or conflict, and how family issues can cause this conflict”. In the bigger picture, we can take this to mean that we are all connected to each other within a family. Therefore, when there is conflict in a family or relatioship, every member suffers. If there is loss in a family or relationship, that loss is felt by each person, since
