Book Summary Everyone deals with some sort of stress every day fight-or-flightThis stress could be good or bad stress that affects their day. Stress is so common in people’s lives that oftentimes people are unsure how to handle it when it occurs. The book Stress Less written by Don Colbert explains how people deal with stress and many different aspects of how to overcome and conquer stress in their lives. Don also explains how believers of Christ should handle stress and rely on God to help us survive the most stressful situations. As the book begins Colbert begins by explaining how through his faith he was healed from stress. Throughout his life, he dealt with the stress of school, health issues, family issues, and many more. Chapter 14 is about how nutrients can help cope with stress. When people's bodies can receive the proper vitamins and minerals their bodies are fueled properly to handle the day and the stressors that come along with it. Nutrients are important when it comes to coping with stress, and like mentioned in chapter 14, the next chapter is used to list and describe which vitamins are necessary and help with the support of stress. Likewise the chapter also uses a portion to explain minerals that are also important when it comes to being able to relieve the pressure of stress. When discussing exercise and the relief it can relieve stress within a person's body, Colbert uses chapter 16 to discuss the importance of moving one's body daily and constantly. Many different sections include endorphin explanation, how to find the target heart rate range, stretching and resistance exercise, as well as many other methods that can be used to help motivate movement of bodies. Chapter seventeen is talking about how to cultivate happiness and joy as a lifestyle. When life is cultivated around joy and happiness the body can relax more freely as well as be able to keep chronic stress away. Colbert writes chapter eighteen about learning to relax and the benefits of being able to allow the entire body to enter relaxation. When it can release tension the body enters a state of calmness which helps manage stress. Oftentimes people have trouble relaxing which often can be the culprit of having stress in life. Colbert uses this chapter to be able to explain how important mediation is and how it can help everyone reach the maximum level of relaxation. Different types of mediation are listed in this chapter which also include the difference in breathing mechanisms as well as how to reach the fullest potential of relaxation.
