In chapter 6 I learned more on how social influence impacts our everyday relations. There are three levels of social influence and they are by conformity, compliance and obedience. The first section talks about conformity, and it is the lowest level because we voluntarily adapt our behavior to match others. Now there are two variations or reasons outlined by the book to conform to those around us and they are “normative social influence,” and “informational social influence”. The former is our response to feel a greater sense of belonging in the group while the second deals more with us trying to be right by sometimes going with what others say to be right too.
I personally enjoyed every chapter that we have learned to date. If I had to pick my favorites, I would choose chapter seven and thirteen. I found these the most interesting because I enjoy learning about the brain itself, how memory works, and the disorders that occur. I find that the brain is the most unique aspect of the human body. Each brain holds millions of memories and ideas that are special to each person, and I find that beautiful.
Chapter seven covers the list of black psychologists who broke barriers and help paved a way to inspire other black people to achieve their dreams. It also covered the achievement about black scholars at Howard University who majored in the field of psychology. This chapter became one of my favorites out of the book because it highlighted all the excellence that black people work hard for to get where they are so that we can have a better for life for ourselves. After I read chapter seven, I felt very inspired by some of the people that were highlighted like Charles Henry Thompson because it motivated me to graduate college and get my bachelor’s degree in psychology so that I can be able to pursue my career. Reading about all the achievements of black psychologists in the chapter was the standout moment for me because if it wasn’t for those people I wouldn’t be the man who I am today.
History. I decided to take an AP course to challenge myself mentally. Yet, I did not know it was going to be overwhelming as I was assigned to read multiple pages every day for homework. Nonetheless, the reading is very dense and hard to comprehend which made me struggle with the packets we had to fill out that correlates to the reading. When I would get home, I would do my homework but sometimes I would feel stressed out because it is just too much work so instead I would go on my phone
Growing up, my favorite show was always How It’s Made on the Discovery Channel. I would stare at the television in awe at the intricacies of each item being made. From then on, I always wanted to know how and why things worked the way they worked. This led me to fall in love with science and the human body. This love was spurred on by my parents, who both work in the medical field.

World history had a notorious reputation on campus; everyone was afraid of the massive amounts of coursework. I decided to take world history, and I am so thankful that I did. I loved that class. I spent every weekend doing world history homework to prepare for the coming week.

I have feel like I have learned a lot from taking this class, and most of what I have learned was from real life experiences. This class made me value academic extracurricular activities more and learning by emerging yourself in that subject. I learned that is way more beneficial for me to experience something first hand than learning about it from a class lecture. I understand how lucky I am to have such a quality education, and I can’t wait to use my education to serve my future community and those who are less
I know most people constantly say how they didn’t learn anything but I feel like I learned a lot. The professors provided us with a syllabus and a textbook to purchase so we can refer to. The teachers taught us to the best of their ability and helped us understand theories and etc. that we couldn’t fully grasp in the textbook.
Not only was I proud of what I learned in those classes, but I was recognized and rewarded for it as well. My goal could be achieved; my hard work could be rewarded. Taking this class has had a profound impact on me. I have learned how to properly study for a college class. Also, I learned how to effectively communicate and reach out to my professor. This was my first college course which gave me a learning experience about psychology and myself as a student. I have learned how to manage my time, study in ways that are better for me, focus on the task in front of me, and reaching out and taking opportunities.
Psychology is defined as “the scientific study of the mind and behavior” (Introduction to Psychology, 2015). Psychology provides an overview of biology and behavior, sensation and perception, learning, memory, intelligence, language, motivation, emotion, abnormal psychology, and therapy (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 1). Because psychology allows for a better understanding of how the mind and body work, this knowledge can be beneficial for any field of study or career. The theoretical and practical understanding of the basics of psychology can help with decision-making, critical thinking, stress management, time management, better understanding of others, improving communication, and even achieving goals and objectives, all components that allow someone to be more successful throughout their life. Throughout this course I hope to gain a greater understanding of historical and theoretical perspectives of human behavior and development (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 2).
