Probability is a constant source of passion for me. A percentage is a bridge between the quantitative and qualitative in that it gives any event a representative number. For example, if an event was given a 67% likelihood, number 0 to 66 out of 99 would be favorable. Afterwards, any number from 0-99 would be randomly picked and if it was a number in between 0-66, then the event would occur. My sophomore math teacher called my explanation of the percentage “bizarre, yet creative.” Rather than just remember the concept as “a number out of a hundred” I relished learning the different applications of the percentage. AP Statistics, was a great class in which I was given an opportunity to visualize the numbers in that fashion.

Such an environment would grant me an unrivaled opportunity to observe and research other interests. Combining statistics and soccer is a hobby, but I would like to magnify my scope of creative statistics by exploring other fusions such as statistical trends that point to a successful book or successful music. In addition, UMich is one of the few schools that offer actuarial mathematics as a major. Few schools offer statistics, but even fewer offer actuarial mathematics. To have an undergraduate education preparing me for my dream career attracts me to UMich LSA. Furthermore, UMich is also very involved in sports. As Chelsea is rivaled by Arsenal in North London, UMich is rivaled by Ohio State in football. Coincidentally, both rivalries are represented by blue and red. I understand the exhilaration of being on one side of such a spirited rivalry and I wish to enjoy the experience in college as well. Hence, UMich LSA particularly entices me with those
