In the book The Crucible Abigail Williams selfish crimes cause others to be blamed for her own witchcraft. Abigail has an affair with John Proctor, the husband of Elizabeth Proctor, causing tensions to rise between Abigail and Elizabeth. During act one Abigail is talking to John at his house and she was talking to him about what they did one night and how she believed he still loved her (Miller, 22). During Abigail and John’s conversation it showed how Abigail isn’t always a good person and she makes mistakes too. During The Crucible Abigail always tries to act innocent or if she's wrong bring others down with her.

It all began in the Salem Village church, With Abigail Williams, and her uncle, Reverend Parris. Mr. Parris, suspiciously found his niece, Abigail, his daughter, Betty, and a group of 10 or 12 other girls who were “dancing” in the woods. As Parris did find them, Betty, fainted in fright of the site of her father while she was out dancing with these girls.

I have reread significant sections of The Crucible several times and have read and analyzed it to the best of my ability on multiple occasions. Once reading this book in my Honors English Course at the number one high school in the state of California, we carefully analyzed the characters, going as far as even making character charts, to understand them and their intentions much better. The Crucible is a play written by a man named Arthur Miller. The Crucible is set in a town named Salem Massachusetts. What happened in The Crucible was something called the Salem Witch Trials. The Salem Witch Trials was a series of tests to see if a person was that was accused of being a witch or being evil. The person to blame for these witch trials was because of the actions of a person named Abigail Williams.

In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Miller introduces the idea, apparent in today’s world, that sometimes people blame others to save themselves from punishment through the characters’ actions and the asides from Miller. The most prominent character that displays this theme is Abigail Williams. Several times Abigail pushes the blame on others when she senses trouble. When Parris finds the girls dancing in the forest, Abigail knows she has to do something to avoid punishment.

The genre of the story is a play and the author's purpose of the story is to inform the audience on what happened in the Massachusetts Bay Colony during 1692-1693. The Crucible is a twisted story about how one girl named Abigail Williams will do anything to get what she wants, even if it means to accuse everyone in the town’s a witch and having dealt with the devil just so she can have a married man, named John Proctor. Everything gets out of control and Abigail conveniences everyone in the town that whoever she says is a witch, is a witch, except John Proctor because he knows her true reason behind all this evil things she is doing and he doesn't want her.
While the play goes on, John Proctor is desire to have an affair with Abigail Williams and Elizabeth is starting to notices the situations between them. John views Abigail as a child and say “We never touched, Abby,” this is stating that he does not recognize that he is unfaithful at this point to Elizabeth (Miller 15). “I will cut off my hand before I’ll ever reach for you again.” which he is expressing that he will actually cut his hands off to keep the peace between him and Elizabeth (Miller 15). He does not want anything goes wrong and hurt Elizabeth’s feeling because of having a affair with Abigail.

In all cases, a villain’s wrongdoings lead to conflict. In Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, Abigail Williams is the play’s most prominent villain. Abigail controls the proceedings through her confidence, especially when proposing an argument, manipulative while brainstorming each of her ploys, and selfish when she chooses to benefit herself over the other characters in the play. These characteristics, Abigail’s most significant, are what helped her control the trial and the townspeople. In order to control the proceedings, Abigail uses confidence, manipulation and condescension and is also assertive when forcing people to believe she has dominance over them.
In the play “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller, Abigail Williams is Reverend Parris’s niece and she has distinct differences between her public self and private self. At the beginning of the play when she goes into Betty’s room, the stage directions say she is very good at “dissembling” herself, which is keeping control of her true feelings, motives or beliefs. Then it says she was worried when she came into the room. This tells me that in her public self she can act in a way that she isn’t really feeling, and if she was her private self she wouldn’t be feeling worried. Abigail also tells Parris that Betty was just frightened in the woods

She is responsible for the witchcraft hysteria because she is a mean and cold hearted person and she lies and causes many people to suffer throughout the story.

As the story unfolds, Abigail starts out as a troublemaker and gets caught in the woods. She lies to her uncle and tries to save herself but gets caught and fesses up. She is also obsessed with John Proctor, who is trying to push her away after an affair. Abigail was most responsible for witchcraft in Salem and should be held responsible for the imprisonment and execution of innocent people because she lied to all of the townspeople first and had an affair with John Proctor.
