ACPA (2017) states, “ACPA members are committed to contributing to the comprehensive education of students, protecting human rights, advancing knowledge of student growth and development, and promoting the effectiveness of institutional programs, services, and organizational unites (ACPA, 2017). The reasoning behind this vital statement by the ACPA is because as professionals it is our duty to regulate our own behavior and be very alert on ethical problems that can possibly happen. By having standard ethics that is practiced daily can contribute to being alert when any problem may arise with students or faculty. Adding to that, educators have to also take into account other sensitive issues with students that may arrive out of their situation such as, race, culture, language barriers etc… Professionals have to be able to ethically monitor their behavior and sensitivity when working with students (ACPA, 2017). Students should be aware that educators have ethical standards that need to be followed. Informing students of their privacy rights is a major standard that professionals need to be aware of and inform the student of his or her rights and the limitations of their rights when he or she signs a consent form.
