It is startling how much one’s approach changes as life progresses. A twenty-something person has the impatience, vigor, and unfettered expectations that someone who has over fifty years of experience on this planet may not have. I am the latter. I still have the vigor. The impatience and unfettered expectations are tempered. Having worked in the area of facilities management for over twenty-three years, I have learned many, many things that are not taught in any academic setting. That experience has changed much of what I thought was possible, and much of what I thought was impossible. My focus is tighter. I have much more patience and am more strategic in achieving goals. Although I am older, I am not “close to retirement”, and have much more to accomplish in my professional life. A master’s degree from our University will provide opportunities for me to expand my impact upon Sac State. I know what we do well in managing our physical plant, and know where we can improve. I am hopeful that a Master’s of Business Administration will enable me to advance to a position where my experience, interpersonal skills, and leadership qualities can build a team that makes our University more efficient, progressive, and intelligent in managing our physical plant resources. We are an excellent university, with one of the highest student population densities in the CSU system. In other words, we are able to educate many students per square foot; a testament to the fact that we are very good at efficiently delivering education. My goal is to do everything I can in Facilities Management to make us the best in the CSU system. Even if I do not continue to move up, improving the education level of the staff in Facilities Management will make our department
