When the going gets tough, the tough get going – meaning when the situation becomes difficult, the strong will work harder to meet the challenge. Horace said “Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant”. Good times are easy for people, and rough times are hard. When times do get tough, it brings out who you really are as a person, whether that is good or bad, you discover who you really are. You also discover who is good and bad in your life. Some people get the pleasure of being happy with themselves and their life. While others, have a hard life and can not find happiness in anything. You can get a job, get married and have a family. These things will happen and you think everything is going to be okay. However, bad things can also happen and will happen when you’re not expecting it. For example, my dad worked at his job for a long time, and when he was not expecting it, he was fired and left with no job, a wife, and 2 kids and house to take care of. He thought everything was falling apart and did not know how to fix it. This is a great example of a bad time that can reveal things you never knew before. Because of this happening, we had to move out of our house in Spring Lake. And also because of this, we had to move, far away, to a house for rent in Muskegon. We thought this would be a bad thing and we were expecting the worst. But, it did not turn out too bad. My mom met her best friend across the street, my dad found a new job 5 minutes from our new house and is best friends with our neighbor, and my sister and I are great friends with our neighbors daughter. Our family is also a lot closer because of this and a lot happier. Our new house is way homier and in a better neighborhood than our old one and everyone likes it better. We were driving home from Grand Rapids and a car hit us going 55 turning left at a light. It was the scariest thing I have experienced and it was emotionally and physically painful. Everyone in the car was hurt pretty bad. From concussions, to lacerated spleens and bruised lungs, to even having broken ribs and getting organs removed and having over 10 surgeries because he had so many things wrong with him. This was a very tough time for me, having school to worry about, and my health and my friends health's to worry about also. I missed over a week of school and really fell behind on grades and motivation. I was always in pain, and constantly driving to Grand Rapids to visit my boyfriend in the hospital. There are a lot of things I could name that was bad about this experience, but some things were good about getting into this accident. I never knew what I wanted to study in college or what I had an interest in. But after this accident, my boyfriend was in the hospital for almost a year, and I was constantly with him, at the hospital and at home. He always needed to be taken care of because he was in critical condition, so I slowly learned how to take care of him so he could feel better. I saw how the nurses and doctors took care of him, and I learned a lot of important things at the hospital. All of this made me realize I really wanted to go into nursing as a
