Nicknamed "The Prime Minister of the Underworld" he became one of the most powerful and influential mob bosses in American history, eventually leading the Luciano crime family, one of the Five Families that operates in New York. “Al”phonse "Scarface" Capone Alphonse Gabriel "Al" Capone born in January 17, 1899 and died in January 25, 1947, was an American gangster who attained fame during the Prohibition era. His seven-year reign as crime boss ended when he was 33 years old. This seven-year reign was with the gang called Chicago Outfit based in Chicago.
Al Capone was born on January 17th, 1899 in New York City, New York. He was a Italian Immigrant and which lead to much discrimination and he decided to join a gang. His family lived in a poor Brooklyn tenement. It was a tough place to grow up but it's what made him to the man he was.

He grew up in a town near Naples where he lived until his father dies when he was two. His mother then brought him to New York, where he later founded the James Street boys and became a top crime boss in Chicago.
During the 1920’s gang related crime was a serious issue. The leader of all this violence and corruption was a man named Al “Scarface” Capone (“Al Capone”). This organized crime, dehumanization, and corruption, became the ultimate image of Chicago for people throughout the world. He was largely immersed in things like gambling, prostitution, and the illegal sale of liquor. He was not convicted for any of his crimes, even the St. Valentine's Day massacre of 1929, until he was imprisoned for tax evasion (Horan).

He started to get into trouble as a young boy when he started hanging out with the wrong crowds. As a young kid he went by the name “Johnnie”. He started getting into trouble by doing pranks on people in his neighborhood, and local corner stores around. He then started to get into petty theft stealing candy bars, gum and other food items. He then got into a street gang called “the Dirty Dozen”.
Al capone did not only do violent crimes but he helped the people around him by setting up a soup kittchen during depression and a city wide program to give free milk to schools kids. In 1939 he was found guilty of tax evasion and was jailed for eight years. while in jail prohibiton ended and grew ill from syphilis. Al capone was released in 1939 and moved to florida. On january 25, 1947 Al capone died.
Al Capone was born and raised in Brooklyn. His father was a barber, and worked at a barber shop at 29 Park Avenue. He had eight siblings, Vincenzo Capone, Raffaele James Capone, AKA Ralph "Bottles" Capone, Salvatore "Frank" Capone, Ermina Capone, who died at the age of one, Ermino "John" Capone, Albert Capone, Matthew Capone, and Mafalda Capone. Capone was a promising student, but he was thrown out of school when he was in sixth grade. He had punched his teacher in the face.

Al Capone was the most well known bosses there was. He was a very impactful leader. From eliminating rival gangs to running a successful alcohol business Al Capone did it all. Al Capone was a predator, people who got in his way were his prey. He did not just kill people to get what he wanted, he was successful in large crime organizations.
