In the story Matched by Ally Condie the Society is a huge role in plot. The Society controls everything from what you eat to who you marry to when you die. In the Society, you are controlled and watched from before you are even born. They send meals to each person and everything is made for health, not taste. The Society decides what vocation, job you get, and how much exercise you can get. They also decide when you die. The Society cannot guarantee perfect health after you turn 80, so that’s the age you die. This happened to the main character, Cassia Reyes’s, grandfather. You could also be an aberration, this is when a parent does an infraction so bad that they become an anomaly and their kids become an aberration, or when you do too many small infractions. An aberration is someone who can’t get married, or become an official, and they don’t carry a tablet container but they still live among everyone else. The Match Banquet is when the people who decided to get married find out who their future spouse is, and start their relationship. This happens sometime after your 17th birthday. Cassia is matched with her best friend Xander, which is very rare. Though throughout the story it becomes obvious that Xander is not her 100% match, she lies and keeps secrets from him, which is not something that a true match would do. “My father has a secret from my mother. And I have a horrible thought after that. So their Match isn’t perfect after all.” (Condie 162) Since they are evenly matched they should feel an automatic trust just because their personalities are so perfect for each other. That is exactly how it is with Cassia and Ky. “Can I trust this boy who writes in the earth? Someplace deep within me-Is it my heart? Or perhaps my soul, the mythical part of humans that the angels cared about?-tells me I can.” (Condie 175) Cassia felt obligated to trust him since she first met him. She tells him everything and they work together perfectly. Ky seems to be Cassia’s true 100% match but since he is an aberration he cannot get married, so Cassia had to go with her second best match, Xander. Cassia fell in love with Ky. Ky fell in love with Cassia. Xander is in love with Cassia and has liked her since they were little. This creates a problem for Cassia, she loves Ky, but can never be with him. She loves Xander but in a
