Some of the highlights of the Sorority were belonging to such a wonderful Sisterhood, attending my first Regional and having the opportunity to add to my leadership skills, for that I am so grateful. At this time I am the primary caregiver for my mother, working on completing a portfolio in Nonprofit Management by December 2015 and working from home. I am available to help recruit, volunteer, make referrals, and will make certain
On Monday November 27, individuals gathered together to attend the Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) induction ceremony. AKD is the International Sociology National Honor Society where members have shown excellence in the field of Sociology. In this ceremony, four students from the University of Tampa were inducted and congratulated on their hard work. To influence attendees who were not yet inducted into AKD and to inspire those who were just inducted, a professor at UT, Brittany Harder, gave a speech that lasted for approximately 45 minutes. She started out speaking about how she first got involved with Sociology.
I have take honors coursework, and have been given the opportunity to network with likeminded individuals within the program. Furthermore, I hope to become an active member of Beta Alpha Psi, as
March 15, 2023 Dear National Honor Society Chapter and Faculty Council, When I was six, I refused to eat pizza with my hands at the risk of appearing “unprofessional” to prospective employers. When I was 12, I took my first practice SAT test on CollegeBoard, calculating anticipated growth to compare against prestigious colleges. When I transitioned to high school, I fixated on the future, weighing extracurriculars primarily for their contributions to my resume. Surrounded by a high-achieving and competitive culture, application to the National Honors Society seems obligatory. However, as I’ve matured, through engagement with Fairview and the organization, I’ve learned that NHS is substantially more than a resume-builder.
The Iowa State University Greek Community holds itself to a higher standard. As a member of this greek community, I strive to uphold the pillars of leadership, philanthropy, friendship, and scholarship in my daily life. I do this by being an involved member of the Sigma Sigma chapter of Kappa Delta. Through Kappa Delta I have been introduced to women who challenge me to grow as a leader and as an individual.
Through this involvement, I became highly interested in the recruitment process. For me recruitment was always a lot like doing ethnographic research which is the reason why I enjoyed both being a DePaul Ambassador and partaking in sorority recruitment. What I also enjoy about recruitment is the need for the attention to detail. Through my involvement in college I learned that I was able to successfully working in groups, as well as, on my own and honed in on my leadership abilities, as well as, gaining excellent conflict resolution skills and communication skills.
They participated in the service of the same bands we currently serve while establishing programming, funding, and innovative methodology which still influences our organization, and we must not forget their impact as bandsmen, leaders, and brothers. Therefore, maintaining strong alumni relations is essential, and I hope to expand our communication to further develop a sense of brotherhood between our active, alumni, and life members. I plan to reignite an interest in Kappa Kappa Psi through the encouragement to reconnect with Beta Kappa, their home chapter. Not only will I utilize our alumni Facebook group, among other channels of communication, to inform and remind alumni of current activities, I wish to gather their stories, experiences, and perspectives from their time as active brothers to use our similar experiences as members of Beta Kappa to bridge the divide caused by graduation. Also, I wish to set time to honor our alumni brothers for their postgraduate accomplishments, as honoring outstanding bandsmen should not stop after
In conclusion, Pi Beta Phi has given me great leadership skills, lifelong friendships, and many networking opportunities. I hope this tribute speech has given you a deeper look into Greek life. Go cards, go Greek, and go Pi Phi. Bibliography: Pi Beta Phi.
Throughout this past week, thanks to Alabama Action, I have discovered the true meaning of a “servant’s heart” and discovered that when like-minded people get together, we can make a huge impact on the community. Servitude is something that is incredibly close to my heart and this week was the perfect introduction to all that the UA Honors College has to offer to help find ways to leave my mark. Coming into this week, we were just a large group of kids from every corner of the country – joined only by our desire to serve and our love for the University of Alabama. But, in just a few short days, we became a community of thinkers, leaders, and dreamers who formed bonds that will last throughout these next few years and beyond.
Any philanthropic service that one can do, not just through a sorority, significantly benefits someone’s personal and communal life. Being in a sorority, however, gives someone even more opportunities to give back to the community and be able to do it consistently. Although most sororities and fraternities require their members to participate in community service, almost all members continue doing this philanthropic work and benefit from it in many ways. These certain benefits could be connecting with one’s community, growing social skills through communicating with members of the community and getting a different aspect of one’s community that could have them react positively to change it. In research on how philanthropy events affect members of a sorority or fraternity, Long says, “The researchers found that service involvement was positively associated with fraternity/sorority membership, being female, and academic performance” (Long, 18).
When I was an underclassman the definitions of clubs seemed to blur into an indistinguishable mass. Yet, I eventually realized that Key Club stood out because of its member’s desire to serve. For me, Key Club has become staying up late and drafting an email again and again, or spending hours organizing a program, and always getting to serve a school that has done so much for me. Despite its hardships, I have loved being the K2K East board member this year! Key Club has given me fantastic opportunities to serve my school and my community.
Finally, I believe that I can make a positive contribution to the Honors College program. I hold myself to high academic standards and am committed to working hard to achieve my goals. I enjoy collaborating with fellow students and professors and approach challenges with a positive attitude and drive to succeed. I am confident that my passion for learning and strong work ethic will inspire and motivate my peers to push themselves to achieve their full
Today I am deeply humbled to be recognized as a potential member of the National Honor Society. To me this means I have exemplified everything you look for in a student who goes above and beyond, not just in academics but in athletics, the community and at home as well. I have not taken this selection for granted, as I believe would be a great asset to the National Honor Society. I am hardworking, honest, reliable and quite charismatic too. I hold all the qualities required by the distinguished NHS like leadership, service, character and scholarship.
Now that I have been in The Fellowship Initiative for over a year, an extracurricular activity sponsored by JPMorgan Chase. I definitely see myself growing as a person. From advancing skills to building personal relationships with other people , I am glad that everything is falling into place in my life on a professional spectrum. In TFI we went on a trip this past summer to upstate New York for a camping trip called Outward Bound. For Outward Bound , we went away upstate for 10 days in the Catskill Mountains.
Speech for NJHS Induction Ceremony Good evening students, faculty, and family members! Thank you, Mrs. Reece and Principal King, for inviting me to this year’s National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony. Students, tonight we honor your achievements in the areas of Scholarship, Citizenship, Responsibility, Community Service, Character, and Leadership as we recognize and celebrate the choices, and at times the sacrifices, you have made. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "The reward of a thing well done is to have done it."
