The American Psychological Association was founded in 1892 and originated with 31 members and quickly expanded from there (APA n.d.). Today the American Psychological Association (APA) has over 115,000 members worldwide and continues to grow. Wasserman (2013) stated “current guidelines in psychology and other areas (e.g., American Psychological Association and American Statistical Association Ethics Codes) were used to inspire a list of recommendations for ethical conduct in data analysis that is appropriate for researchers in psychology”. Ethical issues can happen in any job place, even in practices in psychology. With such guidelines in place for academic research it helps pilot researchers though the issues that could arise. I think that the importance of APA writing helps us scan articles quickly for key points and findings. It’s easier to read and access information in scholarly articles too because the articles are all formatted the same. When writing in this format it provides clarity, uniformity, credibility, as well as keeping you away from plagiarism. APA is very unique in a way that it helps the reader fully understand the topic you are writing about of the point of view that you are tying to get across.
