Amgen – To Serve Patients Amgen is a prominent biotechnology company that is leading the way to finding treatments and cures for common diseases that plague our world today. With a presence in over 100 countries, Amgen is creating some truly fascinating drugs for millions of sick people. These drugs are helping family members and friends who are suffering from cancer, blood disorders, broken bones as well as rheumatoid and plaque arthritis. Amgen concentrates their business on six therapeutic areas: oncology/hematology (cancer and blood disorders), cardiovascular disease, inflammation, bone health, nephrology and neuroscience. Amgen’s mission statement is simple – to serve patients. “Amgen strives to serve patients by transforming the promise of science and biotechnology into therapies that have the power to restore health or save lives. In everything we do, we aim to fulfill our mission to serve patients. And every step of the way, we are guided by the values that define us.” (Mission and Values, 2016) While reading their webpage, they’ve outlined core values that are imbedded in the company in the Mission and Values section.
