Reading the article “Mother Tongue” by Amy Tan has made me thinking a lot these last days about “standard” and “broken” English. The writer gives a lot of ideas, but in my opinion the main idea is “RESPECT”. The bad respect that is shown to everyone only because of a “broken” English. Respect for others is the main virtue that a person must have. Exists an expression “What comes around goes around” that means, in the same way, you treat others in that way they will treat you. Respect is a virtue that everyone must have for others, it is not learned in school. Everyone must know how to say, “Thank You “, “Please” or “I Am Sorry” there are no difficulties using this world. The fact that they said to her to do another CAT scan is terrible. I have finished university in Radiology Technician, so I know what are the effects caused by the radiation of a CAT scan. A CAT scan releases the biggest amount of radiation, so it causes a lot of tissues damaged in the body. The head is the most sensitive part of the body. The personnel of the hospital made two big mistakes. The first mistake was when they said to her to do another CAT scan because they couldn’t find the CAT scan, and the second one was the way the Amy Tan's mother was treated. These two mistakes were caused only from her “broken” English. Everything changes when Amy Tan spoke in perfect English, this means they found a shortcut and didn’t want to search for her CAT scan results. I have a question in my mind “ I have a question in my mind “ What was going to happen if Amy Tan’s English was “broken”?. Her mom was going to be mistreated by some amateurs, only because of her
