RESEARCH FINDINGS
The first lesson I learnt in Lakeland radio is that everyone does more than one job, the team is small but friendly and efficient and a lot of them have their own shows which they produce, prepare and research by themselves. I talked to the people that are usually there on Fridays, which officially became my working day. On the first day they gave me a tour of the studio and the office showing me how you present, produce, schedule and edit shows or different segments. Local media works with the community and aims to present all matters that are of interest to it. Local radio is an example of how local media has a strong role in the community. The radio is a platform for entertainment, advertising, news, weather and travel updates and depending on its situating, it can reach not only locals but also tourists (Lakeland for instance) and even everyone who wants to listen online. Local radio personas are recognised in the community and make sure the community gets recognised in the radio. The communication between the two I witnessed during my work placement, has a vital part in community’s life style, because the people rely on the radio for certain information. When it comes to the radio as an advertising platform it remains a recommended place to go for new businesses that are looking for a market to target in the community and even businesses which have been running for years still turn to the local radio to advertise their work or just a single promotion. Local radio, again as an example with Lakeland radio, targets not only the desired audience but also local businesses to advertise with them.
