Catherine (Cathy) Cesnik was born on November 17, 1942, in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, to Joseph and Anna Omulac-Cesnik. Cathy was the oldest of four children, who all grew up Catholic and attended the All Saints School in Baltimore, Maryland. Growing up, her parents were very busy, her father with his job, and her mother with taking care of her younger siblings. This led Cathy to feel like an outsider, she often wanted to visit her grandparents. Cathy attended St. Mary’s School on 57th Street and St. Augustine High School, both in Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania.

Emma Willard was born in Berlin, Connecticut in 1787 and she died in Troy, New York in 1870. She was an American vocal supporter of female education. Later on she opened a school of her own in Troy, New York, which is still open today. She was known as a Women’s Rights Advocate, an educator and a writer. Emma Willard was the daughter of Samuel Hart and Lydia Hinsdale, they were both farmers and always encouraged her to read, learn and think for herself.
Brooke Rogers is a junior at Drake University studying Environmental Science and Anthropology/Sociology with a minor in History. Brooke is from Kankakee, Illinois and enjoys talking to new people and sharing stories. She is an active member of Drake Broadcasting System, where she has hosted her own radio show for the third consecutive year. Although, this is her first oral history course Brooke finds herself right at home asking people about their lives. Brooke has found the whole process to be rewarding as well as inspirational and hopes to continue collecting oral histories after the course completes.
Who is Jennifer Kirby? I graduated from Bowling Green State University of Ohio with a Bachelors of Science in Education. I began my teaching career in Lakewood, Washington initially teaching junior high math before the district converted our school to a middle school and I became one of the 6th grade Math and Science teachers. After two short military moves, I taught 6th grade Math and Social Studies in the Fort Bragg community.

And Mrs. Lincoln, a good friend of hers. Elizabeth Keckely supports and develops her position on slavery by sharing her personal experiences on the cruelty, her position on Mrs. Lincoln is by defending, speaking highly and lowly about her throughout her memoir, Behind the Scenes. Elizabeth Keckley hates slavery and feels it’s a curse, but she doesn’t blame the slave owners.
The person that I interviewed was Autumn Tomas. She is the Director of Head start/Early Head Start. Her role/responsibility as the director is the day-to-day management and oversight of the Head Start/ Early Head Start Program for Episcopal Children Services. Ellen McConnell was born in Scotland in 1791. The war had started when she was with her son David near their home near Birch Coulee. A little after the war had started, a couple Dakota broke into her house capturing her daughter and her daughter’s baby, and killing her other grandchild, Thomas Brooks, her son-in-law, and her son-in-law’s father. She even had to watch her own husband’s death, but she wasn’t bothered at all. To avoid the war’s danger, Ellen and her son, David, met up with another one of Ellen’s children, Joseph, after walking twelve miles to Fort Ridgely where they stayed till both battles there were over.

In her early life, she was influenced by her father when it came to learning. As a young girl, she had many childhood events and a great education that impacted her life. Born in White Sulphur, WV, she was like a walking and talking robot. Her parents were a huge contribution to her success. Her father wanted her to have such a good education that he moved to a different school.
Joining the military is a very big decision and it takes a lot of time and thinking to know if it’s right for you. When you join the military you are giving up your rights. Not all of your rights but a very significant amount of them that can and will change you drastically. There are many things you should know and consider before you make that decision to join. When you join the military you are not the only person affected, you affect your whole family and you need to understand you will be gone for lengthy periods of time.
