David Penberthy’s article Web of piracy makes us partners in crime published in The Advertiser (pg.25) on September 29 2013 particularized on the issue of illegal downloading with in Australia. Penberthy starts by getting his readers to imagine how they would feel/ react if one of their work colleagues or someone they knew had admitted to stealing an excessive amount of expensive clothing from a warehouse which lacked in security and offering it to the reader. With Penberthy opening his article with this scenario has allowed him too successfully get readers engaged and interested in the article to see where it will go from here. In the first paragraph Penberthy sets the tone for the rest of the article making it clear that the article was written in a simple way in which readers will easily be able to understand. Penberthy also makes it clear in this paragraph that this article will be a one-sided argument on stealing in Australia. This paragraph does work well as a way to attract readers, however, does not include any factual information or evidence to back up the claim that Penberthy is trying to make known to readers and although this paragraph does touch base on the issue of stealing the readers are still unaware of what this article is entirely about. …show more content…
