If someone were rich and famous, what would they be most likely do with their time, money, and words? Most celebrities buy cars, mansions, and even drugs. Celebrities in general become obsessed with their reputation and fame. If being a bad boy or naughty girl gets them the spotlight, here comes the show. A celebrity is defined as a famous person. This can be anyone from a news reporter or a young girl taken from a mud pit after a dam broke and flooded her home with sewage. Celebrities have been around since the ancient Greeks came along (circa 2000 BC("Timeline of Ancient Greek")). When you learn about Greek mythology, you hear about the gods, demi-gods, oracles, and chosen heroes. Those ideas and people were celebrities. Celebrities can do good things or bad things. For example, they can help the poor or they can buy drugs.
Bono didn’t buy fancy things; instead he chose to help people who not only can’t afford a car or mansion, but can’t afford running water, electricity, or even food. This and his love for music might have come from his family life as a young child ("Bono" 1). Bono grew up in a unique household seeing as his dad was Catholic and his mother Protestant. Bono has written and performed multiple songs to make money for charities, he has donated a huge amount and has involved world leaders and other celebrities in the charity work("Bono"). For this Bono has reaped great rewards. Bono has been named/given the title of “Chevalier dans l'Ordre de la Legion d'Honneur”("Bono"), “Person of the Year” by Time magazine ("Bono"), Honorary Knighthood from the British Government ("Bono"), and “Order of Liberty” which is Portugal's highest honor
