Art is everywhere and is used in all sorts of ways. Robert Brownjohn is a world renowned graphic designer that broke boundaries of art. The son of an English immigrant bus driver, Brownjohn was born in 1925 in New Jersey. As a teenager in high school his art teacher pushed his creativity to the fullest. That led him to become bold in his art work and talent was in his veins.
Just two years after he arrived at the Art Institute, he began to study Synchronism, which focused on the musical qualities of color. He then moved to New York in 1913 to experiment with his new found interest in Synchronism. He created beautiful pieces of art in his time in New York. Soon after he moved to New York, he was drafted for World War I.
When he was fourteen years old he came across abstract paintings by Jackson Pollock which was what influenced him to begin his artistic career. He furthered his education at the University of Washington School of Art as well as Yale University School of Art and Architecture. Following his graduation from Yale he received a scholarship to study in Vienna. After studying at the Akademie der Bildenen Künste he moved back to the United States in 1967 to begin his journey. There he started creating his portraits that he is known for which consist of a grid with designs within it.
Although not famous during his life, the now infamous Vincent Van Gogh gained popularity by creating Post-Impressionist artwork. A few of his most famous paintings include, Café Terrace on the Place du Forum, Starry Night, Mulberry Tree, the Vase with Twelve Sunflowers, and the Wheat with Cypresses. Although he has many paintings and drawings out, he did not start painting until 1880, which was ten years before his death. Vincent van Gogh was surrounded by art since the day he was born. Vincent Van Gogh grew up poor and either had to support himself or be supported by his younger brother.
Andy Warhol was born in Pittsburgh. In 1945, Andy Warhol graduated from Schenley High School. Andy Warhol enrolled in the Carnegie Institute of Technology for college to study commercial art. Andy Warhol joined the campus Modern Dance Club and Beaux Arts Society and served as art director of the student art magazine. Andy Warhol earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in pictorial
Norman Rockwell was a famous American painter born in New York City in 1894. While Norman Rockwell had talent at an early age, his talent was not noticed until he was in the eighth grade when his teacher allowed him to decorate the school with his chalk drawings. This was a great motivator for Rockwell and motivated him to pursue art school in his later years. Before attending art school, Norman Rockwell did have several jobs, one of which was mail delivery to where he landed a job as Ethel Barrymore’s assistant. Norman Rockwell would travel with Ethel Barrymore helping her set up her paint supplies and easel.
In the story “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe, Poe uses irony throughout story to allow the reader a little inside and humor on what is about to happen. Throughout the story examples of verbal, dramatic, and situational irony can be found easily and are helpful is foreshadowing what is to come. Verbal irony is when one thing is said, but another is meant. For example, when Montresor runs into Fortunato at the beginning of the story, he says, “My dear Fortunato, you are luckily met” (237); However, he actually means that he himself is happy to see Fortunato because he will profit from this meeting, not Fortunato.
The man encourages Pollock interest in theosophical literature and introduced him to European modern art. Two years later, Pollock moved to New York city to stay with his brother, Charles who was studying art since 1922. Here, Pollock enrolled at
Andy Warhol was, and still is one of the most influential pop artist in the world of art. He is known for his uses of colors and repeating the same picture over and sometimes bolder. Andy Warhol was a big part of the "Pop Movement" during the 20's and I appreciate his work today as an art student. Andrew Warhola was born on August 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Andy's father, Ondrej Warhola, and his mother, Julia Warhola were Slovakian immigrants to the United states.
Andy Warhola’s life begins on August 6, 1928, Pittsburgh PA. He was born into a family who immigrated from Eastern Slovakia. His mother’s name is Julia and he has two brothers named Paul and John Warhola. As a child, Andy was different from most kids his age, he was shy, prone to illness, and he had difficulties in school. However, Andy was interested in art and he was talented too.
Some may argue he was on to something especially now with the rise of reality TV and the number of celebrities who are famous for nothing. By taking this very basic soup can and elevating it to art, Warhol is proving his theory about 15 minutes of fame: this previously utilitarian object suddenly transcends what it was made to do-provide nourishment-and becomes much larger than merely a can of soup. If something as basic as a can soup can become famous or an object of art, then what does that say about people? Of course, Andy Warhol was already aware of how people could be plucked from obscurity and made into "stars". He did that with his Factory Superstars and with himself.
In this scavenger hunt, I found Andy Warhol to be a very interesting person. Warhol’s original name was Andrew Warhola and he was born on August 6, 1928, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. When Warhol was 8, he contracted chorea. During that time his mom Julia Warhola, an embroider taught him drawing lessons. I didn’t expect that Warhol first learned drawing in this type of condition.
Andy Warhol is recorded as saying, “Everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes.” However, Warhol had much more than fifteen minutes. His new artistic creativity and inventive ideas secured him a place in artistic history alongside others such as van Gogh and da Vinci. From painting stars who were in the public eye, such as Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley, to painting everyday objects, such as soup cans, Warhol invited people to review what they see everyday, and see them in a new light. When he was given an art pad as a bedridden child with the rare disease Sydenham Chorea, a spark was lit inside of him, and he drew all that he could.
He was born in 31, December 1869 in Le Cateau-Cambrésis in Northern France. He was a painter, sculptor, drafts man, and printmaker. His mother was an amateur painter and his father was a corn merchant. He studied law from 1887 to 1891 and then decided to go to Paris, to become a painter. He drew some amazing paintings and all of them had a story behind it.
Hopper had a comfortable childhood, growing up in a middle class family. Here, his parents encouraged him to become an artist, as they saw his artistic talent even at a very early age. Hopper was given a chance to work with many mediums such as oil, charcoal, and watercolor. As Hopper became even more passionate about art, he decided to go to The New York School of Art and Design, where an impressionist painter named Robert Henri inspired him. Through his time studying with Henri, he learned to “paint the everyday conditions of their own world in a realistic manner” (Murphy).
