Romeo and Juliet Theme Essay This is how anger and grudges have no positive result. In the real world, and in fictional works, this theme is true. In this essay I will prove my point, and go into depth with how this theme is true. In the literary work Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, there is plenty of evidence that this theme is true. Let’s start with the first time the theme is apparent in Act 1, Scene 2. In Act 1, Scene 2, Sampson, Gregory and Abraham get into an argument. They all drew their swords. They almost fought each other, but the prince stopped them and said if another fight or argument broke out by either the House of Montague or the House of Capulet then both parties would be sentenced to death. Mercutio was already not happy and in a terrible mood. When Tybalt came up to him and provoked Mercutio. Both Tybalt and Mercutio drew their swords. Romeo found them and got in the middle of the two. Tybalt went around Romeo and stabbed Mercutio in the side. Mercutio then said “I am hurt”. A plague in both houses. I am sped.” When Mercutio died Romeo became so angry he took his sword and fought Tybalt until Tybalt fell and died. Even though this didn’t happen due to the feud, it still applies to the theme. Mercutio got angry at Tybalt and when they fought and Mercutio died, Romeo got angry and killed Tybalt. Yes, they will die. In order to avoid marrying Paris, Juliet goes to the Friar for advice. The friar, instead using his apothecary skills, gives her a sleeping potion to make her appear dead a few days later. Romeo goes back to his hometown, not receiving the letter from the Friar. Upon returning he goes to what seems to be Juliet's grave, he recites some last loving words and drinks a poison that he got from a poor apothecary. As he is dying Juliet is waking up and once Romeo is dead Juliet is fully awake, only to see the love of her life lying dead beside her. Juliet then turns to see the dagger he had left and then proceeds to say “O, happy dagger, This thy sheath: there rust, let me die” and she dies. The theme applies to this in a way that we would have to dig for. They both died for different reasons, but also the same. Romeo was banished and didn’t get a letter telling him of the plan, and he killed himself because he thought Juliet was dead. Juliet died because she wanted to get out of marrying Paris, so she faked her death and then when she woke up Romeo was dead and she killed herself too. All of this, both houses realized, was because they couldn’t stop fighting with each
