Animal Testing Persuasive Essay

665 Words3 Pages

Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year. Many people have a problem with animal experimentation because it is animal cruelty. Although animal testing brings more medical advancement and less human-based experiments, it is expensive and doesn’t always have guaranteed results and at the same time, it is animal cruelty.
One reason animal experimentation should stop is because not only are animal lives being wasted but as well as humans. The FDA has noted that only 92% of all safe and effective drugs in animal testing has failed in human trials because they don’t work and they are dangerous. Most animal experiments are not relevant to human health, they do not contribute meaningfully to medical advances and many are undertaken simply out of curiosity and do not even pretend to hold promise for curing illnesses and no matter how many animal tests are undertaker, someone will always be the first human to be tested on. There are other options besides using animals, 95% of medical …show more content…

The assumption on computer simulations to replace animal experiments is that properties of real brains can be inferred from the analysis of artificial neural networks. Unfortunately, this is completely unrealistic, firstly because of the problem of instantiation. Computer simulations themselves teach us that similar functions can be realized by quite different hardware implementations and processing algorithms. Moreover, it is unclear what kind of "replacement" computers are supposed to be and indeed whether animal experiment opponents really understand computers and computer simulations of neural networks. Although certain experiments can be carried out on tissue samples in a test tube, these preparations cannot regenerate, so they must be acquired by killing
