Animal Testing Is it not full entitlement to give everyone and everything equal rights? Some think that animals do not matter as much as animal activists say they do, and that they were only put on this planet for our amusement and for our own types of studies, but that is not the case. Animals are equals because they have a heartbeat and emotions, and someone somewhere cares about them. Modern alternatives have repeatedly been shown to teach better, save time, and save schools money. Most tests that companies perform are NOT law required and products can still be marketed if the animal they test on dies. There are many costs to testing on animals such as: $11,000 levied against Oregon Health Science University in May of 2012 for keeping monkeys in unsafe conditions, $12-14.5 billion spent by the NIH (National Institutes of Health) each year on animal experiments, $24,000 fine levied against Harvard Medical School in December of 2013 for animal welfare violations, $38,000 fine levied against University of Louisiana, Lafayette, in February of 2013 after three monkeys died due to animal testing and research. 67 percent of the world’s population is against animal testing, for the sole fact that they believe that animals deserve a right against being tested upon.
