Annotated Bibliography on “BIM Implementation in architectural Practices” Building information modeling (BIM) is a new approach in design sector and making documentation of building projects.According to the US National Building Information Model Standard Project Committee, “Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility. A BIM is a shared knowledge resource for information about a facility forming a reliable basis for decisions during its life-cycle; defined as existing from earliest conception to demolition.” Current BIM software is used by individuals, businesses and government agencies who plan, design, construct, run and sustain diverse physical infrastructures, …show more content…
Implementation of BIM includes changing workflow from 2D to 3D, finding trained employee and integration with other related fields .The aim of this paper is to introduce BIM in architectural practices in UK. The study was on John Maccalls Architects, Liverpool working with 2D tools over the past two decades. JMA decided to use BIM to overcome the inefficiencies and collaborate with other disciplines with effective time and thus improving the process and business through technical changes. For methodology this research was combined between JMA and University of Salford through a KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnership) in UK where four strategies; diagnosis, action planning, taking action and evaluation were planned for the application of BIM. All the outputs were then united in a workflow chart mapping out projects by JMA. The BIM application has reflected both the technical and socio cultural environments as it provides “learning by doing” Then the results were reviewed and after three months of evaluation ArchiCAD was selected to be the leading tool among other BIM tools. Thus, BIM adoption is introduced as a single solution by incorporating JMA staffs to attain the inefficacies gains which can be applicable for other architectural SME
