Architekton is the Greek word for master builder. The master builders (originally an architect) are multitalented individuals whose responsibility extended well beyond the architectural design. The master builder is the overseer of the entire project, starting right from the concept, design through construction.

The role of master builder is being transformed into VDC teams by the use of project delivery systems such as IPD in combination with work flow system such as BIM. By leveraging IPD and BIM, the VDC team can gain value. As a result the project benefits from leadership applied throughout the entire building process, which is basically the role of a master builder.
