Anti-Speeding for Teens - w Context: The advert, Anti-Speeding for Teens gives a brief representation into the dangers and factors of Teen Peer Pressure and Speeding. The advert is effective to teens as it shows a real life analysis of what the risk of speeding is. The advert was made by the Surrey District Council in order to spread the message across about the dangers of speeding and distracted drivers. The advert which is one minute long in duration shows a good grasp of the realistic dangers that can happen in a blink of an eye. The target audience for this advert is mainly aimed towards teens and how people may be effected by peer pressure. The message in this advert is to not be persuaded by friends in serious situations. The director uses this quicker style pace of editing to display to the viewer that the tension as more and more of the certain danger approaches. For example, during the short advert we see the characters in the car are very quick talkers and make fast movements whereas the driver tends to show a slower style movement as he is seen to be controlled by ropes, this give the effect that the driver is being controlled by his friends like a marionette. Throughout the transitions from each of the characters there is a surreal carnival style soundtrack used to show the driver is under pressure and is performing to his friends. The director makes each character display there own basic characteristics this includes dialogue, costume, voice tone and speaking pace. The pace of the advert stays at a constant as more and more tension builds up, the director uses cuts to display the overall theme which is the tension and cautiousness of the event. The advert like most others that are to do with life threatening situations has an eerie feel about the dangerous truth, from speeding to even annoying passengers. The symbolism of the ropes at first may be considered confusing to the viewer, but as the scene plays along the advert begins to pick up in intensity and tension. The ropes defy the real truth about the simplicity of the issue and how easy it can be caused and how it could be resolved. The camera angles work with the symbolism as it shows the viewer(s)the emotions of the characters and the views of the ropes being restrained to Alex. This emotion/ strain works well as it captures the viewers conscience and makes them believe in what a person who has dealt with this feels like. The real purpose is best displayed in the symbolism which corresponds to the use of varying camera angles and shots. The camera angles and editing skills also take an effect on the audience as they show each of the character's actions and emotions, this has an effect on the audience as it delivers the message across that speed and peer pressure have a dangerous action towards people, teens especially.
