Slavery created division of United States, one side supported slavery and the other opposed. The Northern people didn’t need slaves due to the very little amount of agriculture they had, whereas in the South where they had much more agriculture, they felt they needed the slaves. I believe that the true separation between the North and South was in the people. 4th of July celebrations are hypocritical to slaves. So if you did not like slavery, you moved to the North, and this only helped divide the people by their opinions. On document 1 there are 2 maps, one of railroads, and one of slave density and cotton production.This divide made the country’s economy completely different. While the North had almost no cotton production, the south is full of plantations creating slave based profit. The North used factories and modern technology for profit and the South was almost purely dedicated to raw materials such as cotton, hay, and other cash crops. A economic difference was created, the south supplied the materials, and the North manufactured goods.This helped with the mindset that the 2 parts of America were separated. On document 2, There are multiple pie charts. Looking at chart 3 there is a large margin of workers in the North to workers in the south, only 8% of industrial workers were in the South. But looking at chart 6, all of the cotton bales came from the South only. The North and south were divided by not only beliefs but by jobs. While there are many other reasons also why the North and South were
