Ripped jeans. Nirvana concert. Fashion. Music. Grunge. It was the 1980’s when this rebellion inspired style became popular, and 2013 when it came back around. Grunge conveyed the message that 1980-1990’s teens had given up. Their view of society was a scandal and they no longer cared to impress. This style was a detriment to every traditional moral that had previously long lived. Teens in the 2010-2020’s are seeking to convey the same message. The classy, traditional look, would be replaced by a grimy one. Rock music would again takeover the billboards and grunge would sink in. Tattoos and body piercings became mainstream. It was as if the search for wealth in clothing along with tradition and class had died. This era of teens grew up in the chaos of the Divorce Revolution and had never seen what life was like before the Vietnam War or Watergate. The government looked like a giant scandal to them. “We were the first batch of American kids who were taught that not all priests, cops, and Little League coaches were trustworthy. We got the message: grown-ups were creepy! And so, as our bodies moved past puberty, we pulled our ratty hoodies over our heads and hovered in eternal adolescence,” said music journalist Gina Vivinetto. Grunge style manifested its way among rock bands such as the Mother Love Bone and the Melvins. The mainstream youth combined their inspirations of rebellion and their love for art to create a music and fashion that would never be the same. After taking note of the grunge movement, major labels signed bands like Nirvana and Soundgarden. These signings knocked artists like Michael Jackson off the billboards. Nirvana became the figure of grunge music with their hits such as, “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and “Come As You Are.” The music was lazy vocal delivery and raucous guitar. Marc Jacobs came out with a grunge clothing collection that brought the designer to stardom. The style was grime and dirty. These careless teens created a transformation throughout society.
When the early Generation Z took over, these grunge trends disappeared. Nirvana lost it’s spot on the billboards. Class and tradition sank back into society’s norm. People were back to wearing their wealth on their sleeves. Grunge momentarily fell
