Nirvana is a band that stirred up a lot of controversy in the 90’s but they also changed music and left a lasting impact on music to come. They changed the music scene form sex crazed hair meatal to grunge inspiring bands to come. In an interview Tom Petty talks about how Nirvana is the grunge equivalent of the Beatles, they were the ones that brought gunge in the music field. Tom says that “he cut them down like wheat before the sickle” referring to Kurt Cobain and Nirvana coming onto the music scene. The band members consist of Kurt Cobain, David Grohl, and Krist Novoselic. Some of their hits include “Come as You Are” of their Nevermind album and “Lithium” off the same album (Toth 2014). Kurt Cobain was the band member that had the most impact on people, he became the symbol of grunge even in his death and changed everything for future generations in music, fashion, and the way people behave and what they do.

That’s what really became popular in the 1990’s people started to dress like the band members and smoke cigarettes like Kurt did, he influenced fashion and behaviors, which shows how much power that the band had over people and can make people really understand how they made a lasting impact and why even today that their songs even today still get played on the radio. When Kurt Cobain committed suicide on April 5th, 1994 everyone went crazy. Pete Wentz guitarist form Fall Out Boy talks about how he remembered that day after Kurt committed suicide and he came to school and everyone had K’s written on their hands to pay tribute to Kurt. Even in an interview David Grohl former bandmate of Kurt Cobain said that he didn’t want to make music after Nirvana was
