Kurt Cobain was an extremely influential grunge artist with his renowned band “Nirvana” in the 1990’s. During the band’s lifespan, Cobain played alongside rock n’ roll legends Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl to release three studio albums, Bleach, Nevermind, and In Utero. Along with the blooming success of their music across the nation, Nirvana steadily toured across the world through the years 1987 and 1994. However, the band’s career came to a sudden and unfortunate end when Cobain took his own life on April 5th, 1994. Although Kurt was only a single part of Nirvana, it was enough for him to influence the entire genre of rock music from the 90’s up to today. The trio accordingly recorded a session in Seattle with a critically acclaimed audio engineer by the name of Jack Endino. While Nirvana gradually climbed the charts with a few recorded singles, they released their debut album, Bleach, on Sub Pop Records on June 15, 1989. In effect, the band began to tour the United States multiple times in addition Europe and Britain tours with their new drummer Dave Grohl. After extensively travelling, Nirvana bought out their previous label and subsequently signed to the famed Geffen Records. Under the heavy influence of their well respected label and the release of their second full length album, Nevermind, the band had considerable rises in popularity and fame. As stated by Joe Levy, a Rolling Stone Magazine contributing editor, Nevermind, “opened the door for punk rock and of its anarchy and anger to enter the American popular mainstream” (Mason). The record reached Number One, grossed fifty million dollars within a year, and sold over four hundred thousand copies per week.
