Helen was set to be the most beautiful women in the world, and she was the Queen of Sparta. Her husband King Menelaus was more involved with his brother Agamemnon ,who enjoys conquering land. Helen was soon put under a spell because Paris was promised by Aphrodite to be with any woman he desires. Not only did Helen find
Zeus loved Aegina and she bore his son, which caused Hera to get jealous. She brought upon the island a deadly disease, wiping out thousands of people. In the book, "She was angry because Zeus loved Aegina, the maiden for whom the island was named, and whose son, Aeacus, became its king" (Hamilton 436). Her jealousy almost destroyed an entire city, which proves that the emotion can cause severe consequences. In the end, the book had multiple stories about love and happiness, but jealousy seemed to be one of the important themes.
Penelope and Ada are both lovers of the main character. Penelope is the wife of Odysseus. She patiently waits for her husband to return for multiple years and becomes surprised when he returns home because she believed her husband’s identity was hidden by the Gods. When Odysseus revealed his true self, she admitted, “I cannot speak to him, I cannot question him/ I cannot keep my eyes upon his face” (Homer, book 23, line 1323-1324). In Odysseus head, Penelope is a complete beauty.
All three text accentuate sundry items. Circe discusses the exquisite sound of the sirens to the various men (Homer). Although the Sirens are inveigling sounds Odysseus ,one of the men on the ship, would like to explore the seraphic sounds. The sounds are very powerful and are beautiful melodies that could put anyone under a horrific spell. This is a comparison to (“O’.
She is then judged by the other gods, and some become jealous of her relations. The immortals believe that the goddesses should have intercourse with only their kin or fellow gods. The male characters in the poem are hypocritical because they believe that they can sex with other women. Yet, if a female character has an affair with a man, she's called a Wench or Tramp. Another example of this is the relationship between Odysseus and Penelope.
Procopius ruins the reputation of both Antonina and Theodora, because of their sexual indecency when they were young. In The Secret History, Procopius refers to Theodora as having “not an ounce of modesty in the little hussy (Procopius 37).” Antonina was accused of having a secret affair with her son, Theodosius, which vindicated others’ belief that she was filled with a great amount of “lust”. He rarely had anything positive to say about the two women, but many of their actions could have stemmed from their troubled childhoods. For example, Theodora became a young prostitute that sold her body in order to make a living, and Antonina was said to have lived a “profligate” life where she threw out “all moral restraint” before marrying Belisarius.
Zeus seduced Alemene when he turned himself into her husband. Their affair caused Hera to hate Hercules and want him destroyed. Hercules is the only man that had a mortal woman for a mother that became a god after her death. Hercules was extremely strong, but he had limited intelligence and wisdom.
Going the there chosen home then encountered a centaur named Nessos who carried people across the river Eunos. After Deianira, Hercules went across to find the centaur trying to rape his wife and Hercules didn't hesitate to kill the centaur. Before the centaur died he got Deianira to take a vile of his poisonous blood by telling her it would make Hercules love her like he used to if she felt like he was losing interest in her. Not long after returning
After their visit with Aeolus, Odysseus and his crew come upon Aeaea, the island of Circe. Circe tricks many of Odysseus’s men, turning them into pigs, requiring Odysseus to try to save them. With the help of Hermes, he manages to evade her magic and makes a deal with her. “Or swear me first a great oath, if I do, / you’ll work no more enchantment to my harm.” (10.76-77).
Helios then went to Hephaestus to tell him that when he was away Aphrodites had an affair. The next time that Aphrodite would meet up with Ares, Helios had set a trap for them to get caught in. After this matter was dealt with and Ares was banished from Olympus then Aphrodites would get revenge on Helios by making him fall in love with someone else. Aphrodite did this by using an uncontrollable love potion she gave to Helios without his knowledge. “Helios (who was, at the time, happily consorting Clytie) fall madly in love with Leucothoe, the daughter of the Persian king Orchamus and Eurynome.”
Zeus had a lot of affairs with different women, and this had made Hera incredibly mad so she would take revenge on the women and their children. One example of this would be with Hercules. Zeus had an affair with a woman named Alcmene. How he accomplished this was by disguising himself as Alcmene’s husband and had made love to her and impregnated her with Hercules. Hera found out and was enraged.
Of all the suitors that Zeus witnessed and could have chosen for such an alluring Goddess, he chose Hephaestus. The God of the forge. He was handsome, as all the Gods were, but was lame. A fact that Aphrodite could not help but turn her delicate nose up at. When she appealed to the mighty thunderer, his only answer was that he had chosen the best match for her in terms of preventing a war on Olympus over her beauty.
Odysseus ignores his men and his wife to sleep with Circe for satisfaction, something that would go against ancient Greek and modern values today. With Odysseus being delighted by Circe instead of
