Dear Provost Committee on Scholarship Review, I am an upcoming sophomore and the purpose of this appeal is for the reinstatement of my scholarship. My first year of college was a year of realizations. After finishing off my first year, I learned more about my strengths and weaknesses, and in turn what major would be best suited for me. I realize that I cannot excel in a major that is chosen for me. The only way to achieve my full potential is to make a drastic change and switch my major. I discovered that my cumulative gap was a 2.98, which is just shy of the 3.0 mark for my scholarship and aid. I believe the reason for this shortcoming is due to the major I was in before (Biology). The extremely rigorous curriculum of advanced sciences in the Biology major took its toll. I was falling behind and too scared to make a drastic change because I feared I …show more content…
I am willing to improve my weaknesses by researching new ways to retain information effectively with help from academic advisement. Also, I was able to choose classes with the help of my new major’s department head. I can excel in these classes based on my passion to obtain a job in the health field. There were a few classes that I did well because I had a genuine interest in them. A positive change I noted is the fact that I went to tutoring every week for chemistry lab. Going to tutoring was a big help, but next semester I plan to expand and attend tutoring for more than one class that I struggle in. I believe the classes that I chose for the Fall semester of 2016 are classes that I will excel in because these classes excite me and my actions to seek help if I am not understanding a topic in the curriculum. Sometimes change is necessary, so changing my major is something that I see as a wake up call so I can work harder and go above and beyond the grades I received thus
