What makes someone more qualified than another? We can reduce people to numbers and statistics, but those things don’t define candidates entirely. It is our virtues and the experiences we endure that build us into the people we are. In turn, they also help us push ourselves, overcome challenges, and learn from failure. I would be honored to be considered for the Mayo Career Immersion Program because my virtues and experiences have shaped me into a competitive candidate. One of the best experiences of my life was participating last summer as a crew member in the Conservation Corps of Minnesota and Iowa. I was a part of so much amazing work there, and contributed to the preservation of our natural resources. My crew assembled a playground, cleaned campsites, and restored city parks. While working, I gained a sense of the effects we had. Not only did I have a significant influence on the community, I found new meaning in the work I completed. My core values include adaptability, responsibility, willingness to learn, positive attitude, and resiliency. I try everyday to incorporate these essential components into my life. I strive to be adaptable when presented with new tasks, and aim to accept responsibility for all of my actions. Willingness to learn is incredibly significant to who I am. I love to explore new topics and expand my knowledge. However, I also believe that failure is the best teacher.
