From a young age, I have always had a desire to help others. I really want to do medical mission work in places like Africa and South America. I want to be a dentist, but I have also been looking at becoming a pharmacist or nurse. To get into the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry, there are several prerequisites that I have to have. It would be good for me to have a Bachelor's degree as well as completing the following prerequisites. I have to have 6 semester hours of English Composition, 8 hours of biology (lecture and lab), 8 hours of general chemistry (lecture and lab), 8 hours of organic chemistry (lecture and lab), 8 hours of physics (lecture and lab), and 3 hours of biochemistry (lecture). It is a pretty good match! Their admission requirements include a high school diploma, 2.7 GPA, ACT score of 20 and 940 SAT score. I would have to submit my application before February of my senior year. Ouachita has pre-nursing, pre-dental, and pre-pharmacy studies. In addition to this they have Biology. A big thing that draws me to Ouachita is the fact that I could take Christian Studies with an emphasis on missions. This is an important thing for me to think about depending on what mission organization I choose to work with. For example, the International Mission Board (IMB), requires you to go to seminary, and taking Christian Studies would be an important first step. Ouachita has a variety of scholarships. I really need to be a National Merit Finalist and make a 32 on my ACT. LOL! I would get the $10,200 scholarship for first time freshman, band, Minister’s child, and Arkansas Baptist State Convention employee’s child scholarships. I would also get a legacy scholarship since both my parents attended OBU. Tuition at Ouachita would be around $32, 320 dollars including tuition, fees, room and board. This is more than UCA, but I feel like the scholarships I can get at OBU make it about the same as UCA. Ouachita has a 97% acceptance to graduate programs, which is really important for dental school. They have a 76% Retention rate, 60% of students graduate within 5 years, and 94% go onto a full time …show more content…

This college is much farther from home, but it is in Fort Worth where I was born, and in the same town as the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. It also close to several dental schools. To get in to TCU, there is not a set ACT or SAT score that would “guarantee or prevent admission.” I would have to have 4 units of English, 3 units of math, 3 units of Science, 3 units of Social Studies, 2 units of language, and 2 electives. The high school core material pretty much covers this. I would need to apply before February 15th of my senior year. TCU has biology, chemistry, music, nursing, pre-health, business, Italian, and Spanish for Health Professions. I really like the option of taking Italian! TCU does present a financial challenge due to the fact that half the students do not receive scholarships from the school. Their tuition comes to an annual total of $55,360. This is nearly double that of Ouachita, and triple that of UCA. They have a 90% retention rate, and 75.5% of students graduate within 3-6
