I will be attending graduate school in order to further develop my interest in clinical psychology that has been fostered during my undergraduate years. I anticipate to receive my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology during the summer of 2017 from Hunter College. I am especially interested in researching about the vulnerability factors that influence individuals’ susceptibilities to psychosomatic disorders, anxiety disorders, as well as psychopathologies. Ultimately, I seek to be in a research position along with being trained as a clinical therapist. Further along the line, I intend on becoming a professor, and to inspire new generations of students to become motivated and interested in psychology just as my professors inspired me.
I also obtained my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Regent in May 2016. While obtaining my BS degree, I was also a full-time business owner for 3 years, in which I ran and operated a Christian home healthcare agency. Unfortunately, we closed the business due to the increasing financial costs of operation. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, traveling, d-i-y projects, and spending time with my family. She dedicates her time to explain what Hope Academy is all about and helps you understand what you will be doing at you time of service. The volunteering offers you to be able to help students in developing their social and learning skills.
When telling people that you are a psychology major, they always come back with the statement, “What can you do with that?”. Many individuals do not know how broad of a range the activities that involve psychology are. Psychology gives you the ability to take a career path and make it your own. It involves many different job titles at many different locations. Some of the paths include working in research, education, consoling, law, or service providing while working in locations such as government agencies, schools, businesses, hospitals, mental health clinics, and much more.
The minute I came across the announcement for the NSF REU site on Facebook, I knew immediately that I had chosen the correct major at Florida State University. Like many transfer students, and a distance one at that, I was limited by my selection during the transfer process and decided on Interdisciplinary Social Science with concentrations in Sociology and Geography. The description of the research project on the Citizen Science GIS website put my decision to study ISS into clear perspective when I had the lightbulb moment of why; because I am passionate about people, places, and stories, and that the research tracks are something that would be just as useful in the coastal community of Sarasota where I live. Truth be told, I was not always this passionate about the coast.
Erskine is a school that blessed me with an opportunity to further my education and basketball career. there are a few reason on why I want to attend there, they have the major I want to continue to study, there very family oriented, the school is close to home . Erskine has an excellent science program that dates back to the early years of the college. I am applying to earn a degree in Business Management at Texas State University. With this degree from Texas State i plan to take that knowledge combined with my piror experience in the management side of Business, and begin to continue something that has molded my character. I graduated master degree in Human Genetics in the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Science, the second-ranked medical university in Iran, working on cancer research. My academic goals for WSU include participating in the Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College, participating in multiple student organizations, and to graduate with real world experience. Participation in the honors college is a great opportunity become part of a special community within Wichita State with special access to smaller classes, scholarships, travel, internships, and community service experiences. Also while at WSU, I wish to be a part of many student organizations, including intermural sports and other clubs. Most importantly, I want to graduate from WSU with real world work experience, so I can be more prepared for my future career in engineering. When I was considering my options for 4-year institutions, finding a good university that offered psychology as a bachelor of science was a struggle. Many universities did not offer this option for their students, and limited a comprehensive branch of science such as psychology into a narrow space that it did not deserve. As I mentioned in my personal statement, I aspire to become a neuropsychologist whose main focus is to research specific brain disorders and their effects on human behaviors. I am focused more on the neurological side of the psychology, and crave a program that will provide me with resources from both fields. Though I have been interested in psychology since high school, I came into graduate school not quite knowing where I would fit in the field. However, I quickly found my niche in my first clinical practicum which involved working with minority, homeless families in a low-income Los Angeles neighborhood. There I discovered that I could combine psychological training with my passion for social issues like poverty, diversity, and advocacy. I have been fortunate to have a number of supervisors, professors, and colleagues help me continue to foster this passion into a professional identity. With their guidance, I have been increasingly able to utilize a holistic approach to clinical work.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have felt a calling to help people and change their lives for the better. I feel that psychology is a degree in which no matter what job I end up receiving; I will be impacting and making a difference. Preston High has offered me with many classes that have helped me further my college education. Some of my most enjoyed times are when I am helping others and knowing that I am making people feel good. I am looking forward to my college experience at Fairmont State University.
From a very young age, I have been interested in studying psychology; I watched psychological movies discussing various mental illnesses, created multiple extra credit projects examining abnormalities that occur during development, and interned and volunteered at collaborative schools and adult social groups. I have been able to explore the diverse perspectives in the field of psychology. It was not until college when I was able to take my first psychology course that I knew working in this field was the perfect fit for me. Taking more classes has given me the opportunity to see what field of psychology I want to further engage myself in. My course, Practicum in Human Services, directly places me into the field of work.
