Applicability of two frameworks
The common subsets of EA are business architecture, data architecture, application architecture, and IT architecture (The Open Group, 2001). TOGAF is designed to fulfill the IT architecture by addressing the functions of business, data, and application architectures the pertain to the development of IT architecture (The Open Group, 2001). With this, TOGAF is primarily focused on technology-based enterprises but is capable of fulfilling all architecture needs. In addition, TOGAF primarily utilizes processes and methodologies to produce an architecture, which is driven by the type of business using the model. This means that to be useful to an organization, the TOGAF may require modification to curtail the framework to the target enterprise. It is often suggested that TOGAF is better suited for use in conjunction with other frameworks (The Open Group, 2001). As an example, a software development company could benefit from TOGAF as they would certainly have IT systems that support their business goals. Using TOGAF would help formulate their business goals and process into basic EA. However, the focus on process development and the lack of artifact development and limitations associated with change management may leave the final product unsuitable for use. Combining the TOGAF model with the Zachman Framework and EA planning methods could help provide the organization with a more comprehensive EA.

Among the advantages of using TOGAF is that it well known, widely used and free. Within the framework, is contained a strong process that includes commonly accepted EA viewpoints. TOGAF is flexible and vendor neutral and frequently updated to match changes in business and IT goals. This means that TOGAF is flexible and adaptable to almost any enterprises EA effort. Moreover, since it is an open-source framework, TOGAF undergoes frequent changes taking into consideration, input from a large number of organizations that use the framework.
