Aqueducts were one of the most fascinating piece of architecture and greatest piece of engineering. Aqueducts was the first time anyone has got running water into central cities, they used the water for plumbing, sewers, irrigation, and drinking water. Rome was the first city to have running water and efficient plumbing. These where the first ever invention that used a thing called arches. They came with many advantages such as the use of less material and less money, they showed triumph and gave the aqueducts good support. The Romans used a slight angle so that it wouldn't go to fast and clog up or to slow for it to stop but just right so gravity will take it easily to the cities. The coliseum was built by slaves and was at a height of 160ft tall and had 360 degrees seating. It was planed out by the emperor named Vespasian and it taken 8 years for it to be complete. When it was finished it could seat 45,000 to 50,000 people in capacity which is a lot of people when you put it into perspective, Wrigley field only fits 41,072 people. It had retractable roofs which allowed the events to go on during the rain and protect things from the sun. Think about how many stadiums now have retractable roofs. The Romans are the first to use tickets and gates so people have an assigned seat. It was the first stadium with drinking fountains and bathrooms, reason why is because of aqueducts and running water (see above). It had eighty arches through out the coliseum which meant easy exits for large crowds and, air circulation so people stay cool on very hot days. Lastly they sold concession which is one of the most common things to find in the latest stadiums. The coliseum is one of the biggest impact because, almost all stadiums now a days have all of these features that the coliseum started with. Imagine a life, with stadiums with fans going crazy over seats, having to hold in there business till they get home, being parched or starving throughout what there watching because of no drinking
