Codes of honor are established in order to develop a school culture of integrity and to ensure honesty between the students and faculty. Although various measures to reinforce these policies are taken, the efforts do not consistently guarantee success of the absence of cheating. On the other hand, numerous schools have prospered with implementing a code of honor, but with diverse measures in which they integrate the assistance and opinions of students. Our school’s code of honor, although already founded, should be revised and reinforced by students in order to inaugurate and foster the virtue of honesty and trust into our school culture. For the grand majority of the student body, these oaths are promptly forgotten once our names are printed on the paper. This is the issue in which we face as a school, where we ourselves, are the fault as to why we do not have a clear foundation of trust between one another; we simply forget the promise we make, not only to the school and faculty, but also to one another. An elementary requirement of “ a pledge of honor at the beginning of each term, affirming that each student will behave honestly and responsibly at all times,” (Vangelli), is not the adequate manner to address the conflict of dishonesty.
