Menlo Park Academy is a chaotic school with no order. The board is made of parents who only want the best for their child. Parents practically run the school and the only students who get the advanced classes are students of parents who fight the school for their child, even if other students are qualified. The school is run by parents, it 's completely chaotic. Menlo Park Academy simply takes the good, gifted from public schools, and hurts the public school system.
Jonathan Kozol, educator and activist, wrote “Freemont High School” in 2005 which came from his book, The Shame of the Nation: The Restoration of Apartheid Schooling in America, to draw attention to the misfortunes of this inner city school in Los Angeles, California. The learning conditions the students have at Freemont are horrendous. Being one of the poorest schools from lack of funding, the health conditions the children have to attend school in are absurd. Compared to Freemont, Maryville High School is a very nice school to attend and has much better learning conditions. The two schools are different in dramatic ways, but neither school is a perfect one to attend.

There is an ongoing debate about whether or not the honor code, a code that obliges students to report academic dishonesty of their fellow peers, is strict enough, with many students claiming they feel that their privacy is being violated, and others worrying that requiring reporting cheating to superiors will cause friction amongst the student body. Others claim that with the abundance of recent statistics of high level cheating and plagiarism, a stricter honor code is a necessity. While it is important to respect the student’s privacy, and maintain an ideal learning environment, the fact remains that the honor code, as it is currently, is underperforming, and that stricter measures need to be taken, for the sake of a fairer learning environment. The main contention of the test takers seems to be that being closely watched and supervised make them feel uncomfortable and invalidated.
Professional environments such as jobs, school, or other organizations all share a common characteristic, each of which having their own sets of rules and regulations; among these could include something called an honor code, which is meant to be a promise to abide by certain rules, typically cheating in an academic setting. A lot of people want to believe that the honor code is taken seriously by at least most people, but the fact of the matter is that little to nothing is enforcing these “promises of honesty”. While many colleges implement honor codes as a means of ensuring academic integrity, it has proven to be ineffective and quite contradictory for a variety of reasons. Cheating, plagiarizing, and taking credit for another’s work is usually frowned upon, but the honor code was created to prevent these acts from occurring. Honor codes are different from school to school and are commonly not followed. The honor system was created to convey that when you lie about accomplishing something yourself, you will be penalized for it. Honor code systems should be revised because of the lack of student involvement, the lack of confidentiality, and the burdensome consequences. To begin with, student involvement plays a huge role on campuses.
In schools cheating is something that is looked down upon and seen as a huge issue to teachers and administration. There are multiple methods that have been used to stop this dishonest actions however, the honor code is the most well known. Many schools have unique versions of the honor code but, they all have the same goal. Cheating is a serious topic and should not be tolerated however some honor codes don’t do the best job in controlling the students. My school does not have a harsh and over the top honor code which is a good thing and should be maintained.
Honor codes should be mandatory in every school because schools are places where students learn the skills necessary in order to face the reality of life and the hard work that is needed in order to succeed. If schools do not enforce an honor code, students will develop with the notion that cheating is not punishable and is socially acceptable, even though this is in fact not true. In light of this, it is imperative that schools avoid this misconception so that students understand that cheating is not acceptable. Honor codes help in accomplishing this because they instill the preconceived notion that they should be honest with themselves about how much knowledge they really have about a subject. Green Hope High School prides itself on being a modern school, one that isn’t afraid of stepping into new territories technology-wise, and one that keeps up with the times of education. the school was one of the early adopters of the BYOD program in Wake County. It maintains a cart of laptops in every classroom, in the name of adapting to the increasingly digital era of teaching and learning. However, the fact that these laptops and computers are still running old software works in contrast against the previously mentioned “cutting-edge school”.
Across the United States lies 37,100 high schools; each school comes in their own shapes and sizes. Educators recently looked into whether or not lowering school size could help better these students. Results found that small high schools contain less violence incidents. Moreover, small high schools result in a wider array of student involvement. Nonetheless, small high schools offer only a limited amount of courses and extracurriculars that students can get involved in.
Plagiarism in schools is a pandemic that seems to have no end in sight. Many schools claim to enforce strict policies for plagiarism; unfortunately, that is not always the case. In many cases the policies are undetailed and unclear in the punishment’s specifications. Spencer High School is a prime example of this. Within the student handbook lies multiple, shaky policies regarding plagiarism.
However, it should be taught equally upon all students no matter what nationality and culture. International students should not be excluded because of different overseas education system, nor the policies and assumption be changed but it’s the students responsibility to follow the rules of academic integrity of conduct. But academicals should be held accountable to provide the proper education for the needs of students, so it will help them learn strategies instead of surface-touching. As authors Lenora C. An honor code can be so effective that “many schools with academic honor codes allow students to take their exams without proctors present, relying on peer monitoring to control cheating” (Source F). Despite this system, there is research that “indicates that the significantly lower levels cheating” (Source F) at schools with honor codes. This is possible because there is a peer culture that denounces cheating, making kids embarrassed to commit academic dishonesty. Such a peer culture was formed by educating the students about the value of academic dishonesty.
“Since “everyone else” is cheating, they have no choice but to do the same to remain competitive. And there is growing evidence many students take these habits with them to college.” (McCabe, Donald and Pavela). More and more colleges are using the honor codes. The honor code has helped to prevent cheating.
Plagiarism is among the rebuked acts that students tend to involve themselves in while undertaking class assignments in both the in-class and online education systems. Unlike the other forms of academic dishonesty, which are primarily driven by the desire to pass in a given unit or course, plagiarism is increasingly applied by online class students.
