What is a liberal arts education? The answer to this question varies from person to person. Historically, a liberal arts education meant being knowledgeable in what was known as the trivium, during the Greco-Roman era, and the quadrivium, during medieval times. This consisted of grammar, rhetoric, logic, arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy. Now, a liberal arts education consists of having a basic understanding of multiple subjects across four generally accepted fields, which are humanities, social, natural, and formal sciences.
So, what is a liberal arts education from my perspective? A liberal art education consists of immersing one’s self into multiple fields of academia, to have a minimum basic understanding in several different aspects

Business students are capable of studying different interest while also focusing on their selected major. For instance, a student working towards an accounting degree can also study about business in sports, music, theatre or political science. Upon graduation, that student will obtain their degree in accounting, but will also have an appreciation and/or an understanding of another field. So, on top of blending business with a liberal arts education, the Hickingbotham School of Business incorporates Christian doctrine into a few of the classes offered. The biggest example of this comes from the business ethics course that is offered. Students are tasked with learning general business ethics and ethical situations and then comparing and contrasting those with Biblical context. Since, this is the best example of the Hickingbotham School of Business blending business with faith, this shows that very few classes incorporate a great deal of Ouachita’s mission of integrated faith-based studies. One way the School of Business could blend more faith with business would be to have more Christian elements incorporated into the Business Core classes. This would include study business law and then how those laws compare to Christian doctrine, understanding a person’s behaviour and then learning how to manipulate that person within Christian doctrine, and how to work with companies and others that have other belief systems other than
