His tournament record worldwide is greater than anyone else’s. He has been at the top of the game for twenty years now; he is probably the most formidable force in the modern age of golf. He is one of a kind, my idol. As a golfer “myself” I try to imitate Tiger Woods; from the way he manages himself on the golf course to how he trains for a tournament.
Sports should be hard and require skill and very strategic. Although some say it is entertaining, is not very strategic. You ride around in circles and try to go as fast as you can. If we are considering NASCAR a sport, then we should do the same for mini golf, go kart races, and board games sports. Many people have a car and drive it places, should all of those people be considered athletes.
I played golf when I was younger, but I have recently been more involved in the game of golf. As I have gotten older, I’ve been thinking, is golf a sport or is it a hobby? I will be discussing two sources based on golf whether or not it is a sport. The first source I found was “Top 10 Reasons Golf is NOT a Sport” by thesportster. The second source I found

I was devastated since the tournament was two weeks away and there was no way I could play. My thoughts were troubled, but there was one idea I received, never say never. Therefore, I practiced the hardest I had in a while for those two weeks at my local golf course. By the time the day of the tournament arrived, I was ready. When we made it to Baltusrol Golf Club, I never saw anything like it.

My literature review is based on three sociological concepts and golf. The three topics are as follows: agents of socialization., stereotypes, and symbols. In the literature review it will discuss my findings about the following: the agents of socialization and how the different agents are reflected in society and in golf, stereotypes and the attributes about women golfers and the attitudes of golfers, and how symbols are objects, ideas, and expression used to convey a different meaning. Lastly, it will also discuss the findings how the sport of golf symbolizes success and status, patriarchy, and the golfers are seen as symbols. The findings will explain how each sociological concept corresponds to golf in some aspect.
Is Golf a Sport? Many people would consider golf to be a game rather than a sport. Golfers do not have to be great athletes or in terrific physical condition. Golf is accessible to most people and it does not require a team (most times), so it seems to be a game. Golf does require skill, practice, and athleticism, the same as other sports.
Golf is a game of the mind not the body. I know that sound cliché but it really is true. The best golfers in the world insist that their mental game is the reason they succeed. For the majority of my golf career, I always thought these golf legends were just saying this without anything to back it up.
Golf, Is It a Sport Some people say golf is just a game and you don’t need to be athletic to participate in it. However, there are many facts supporting the idea that if you play golf, you are considered an athlete. A game is considered an activity that is played for self pleasure and enjoyment only. On the other hand, a sport is a competitive activity in which precise skill and athleticism is needed to achieve success. First of all, it is unarguable that when you play sports calories will be burned.
To start things off, lets look at the Oxford Dictionary’s definition of sport: “An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment”. Here you might argue that sitting in front of a computer clicking some buttons isn’t physical exertion, but I say that is ignorant, just because it doesn’t make you sweat enough

However, they also offered tasty free sub sandwiches that kept me coming back. Over time, I became more familiar with the experienced golfers, who I initially looked upon with disdain and didn’t think I will ever understand, because not only did they think it was good fun, but also a sport, to hit a little stationary ball around with a stick- alone. However, despite my stubborn views, I came to understand that nothing about them was lax. They spent countless hours on the range, drilling their swings, practicing multiple shots with different clubs. Not only did they practice to keep a consistent swing that would deliver on the course, but also practiced shaping shots to face the potentially difficult situations they might find themselves in on the course.
More than half of professional golfers have had to stop playing, because of their injuries. One third of the PGA (Professional Golf Association) players have felt lower back injuries that has lasted for two weeks. In conclusion Golf is a sport, because of the injuries you can get from the sport, and it applies to the definition of a sport in the dictionary, and finally golf requires 17 different muscle groups to complete a golf swing. Next time if someone say, “Golf is not a sport!”
