Firearms are one of the most dangerous modern day inventions. While they can be used for good, it is more common for them to be used for evil. They are very important for military and police use, but they are not needed for civilian use. Firearms being in the hands of civilians does far more harm than good. Most countries practice gun control, however the United States of America does not. Firearms should be restricted and accounted for in the United States of America, due to the fact that most citizens do not have the basic knowledge to use a firearm properly and safely, in addition, this will cause a dramatic decrease in gun violence, and lastly they aren't needed for self protection. In the United States of America firearms are not restricted and accounted for. This leads to a large amount of firearms being purchased with no need, licensing, or knowledge about how to use firearms. However the cons of owning a firearm far outweigh the pros of owning one. It is very rare that a person would ever actually need to use it for self defense. Only about 1% of victims in a crime use a firearm to protect themself. When a person is ever actually placed in a dangerous situation that would call for the use of a firearm, the majority of the time the person will be outside of their house, without their firearm, rendering the firearm useless. The only way that a person’s firearm would be successful in protecting them against most violent crimes would be if it happened in the person’s house or that person had a conceal and carry license, which most people do not have. If the United States of America decided to get rid of firearms, gun violence would plummet, and people wouldn’t need one to protect themselves because there would be nothing that they would need to protect themselves
