In the Second Amendment in the constitution of the United States citizens have the right to keep and bear arms, but is citizens in The United States abusing this right? More and more gun violence has increased over the last decade, including unlawful murders and horrific massacres. Should we have gun regulations? Till this day guns have been one of the leading cause of deaths per year. “Approximately 33.000 gun incidents occur per year in the United States” (Hawkins). In the year 2016, there are approximately 15,079 deaths by the use of a gun. This year and counting there are 11,588 deaths currently in the United States because of the act of using a gun. Furthermore “about 200 Americans go to emergency rooms every day with gunshot wounds”. (Procon) “According to a Mar. 10, 2016 Lancet study, implementing federal universal background checks could reduce firearm deaths by a projected 56.9%; background checks for ammunition purchases could reduce deaths by a projected 80.7%; and gun identification requirements could reduce deaths by a projected 82.5%”(Procon)., this is a very high number of deaths per year just by using guns alone. Data shows that “Of the 29,618,300 violent crimes committed between 2007 and 2011, 0.79% of victims protected themselves with a threat of use or use of a firearm, the least-employed protective behavior” (Procon). Furthermore, in 2010 there were 230 "justifiable homicides" in which a private citizen used a firearm to kill a felon, compared to 8,275 criminal gun homicides (or, 36 criminal homicides for every "justifiable homicide") (Procon).
